May Roaster’s Choice: Dirt Bag Coffee Has Entered the Chat

Every month, our Roaster’s Choice gives us a chance to spotlight something special, something seasonal, or something we’re just plain excited to drink.

For May, we’re doing something a little different.

This month’s Roaster’s Choice is Dirt Bag Coffee, a collaboration between Heave Ho Coffee Co. and URT.

And no, this isn’t your typical “single-origin from a very specific hillside with tasting notes that require a thesaurus” kind of coffee. We love those coffees too, but Dirt Bag is built with a different purpose.

This one is about flavor first.

Dirt Bag Coffee was created to be an everyday dark roast that actually tastes good. Bold, smooth, rich, and easy to drink, without being burnt, bitter, or over-roasted into oblivion. It’s the kind of coffee you can brew at home, bring camping, make in a French press, run through your drip machine, or pull as a strong cup before making questionable decisions.

In the best way possible.

Why Dirt Bag?

This collaboration started with a simple idea: make a coffee that feels like the brand.

URT has always had that rough-around-the-edges, ocean-soaked, working-class, fun-loving energy. Heave Ho has always been about coffee that’s crafted with care but still made for real people doing real things.

So instead of building this coffee around a single origin or one specific country, we built it around a profile.

We wanted something:

• Dark, but not burnt
• Bold, but still smooth
• Easy to brew
• Reliable every morning
• Strong enough to stand up to cream, but good enough to drink black
• Fun, approachable, and a little dirty around the edges

Basically, a coffee that doesn’t need to explain itself too much.

It just works.

A Brand-First Coffee

This is the first time we’re putting a Roaster’s Choice forward where the focus is less about where the coffee comes from and more about what the coffee is meant to be.

That doesn’t mean quality takes a back seat. It means we’re using our roasting experience to build a cup that serves the customer first.

Sometimes coffee gets a little too precious. We love origin stories, processing methods, and the nerdy details behind great coffee. But sometimes, you just want a bag of coffee that hits right every morning.

That’s Dirt Bag.

It’s not trying to be fancy.
It’s trying to be useful.
And delicious.
And maybe slightly irresponsible.

How It Tastes

Expect a bold, darker roast profile with a smooth finish and enough body to make it satisfying however you brew it.

Think:

Dark chocolate. Toasted nuts. Low acidity. Big body. Clean finish.

It’s rich without tasting ashy, strong without being harsh, and made to be the kind of coffee you come back to day after day.

Dirt Bag Coffee will be our Roaster’s Choice for the month of May and will be available while supplies last.

You can grab a bag online, in the shop, or wherever you usually get your Heave Ho fix.

This one is for the early risers, the ocean dwellers, the garage tinkerers, the post-surf zombies, the “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” crowd, and anyone who wants a dark roast that doesn’t taste like it was roasted during a small electrical fire.
